The Creole Soul concert featured the renowned Trinidad-born trumpeter Etienne Charles. This special musical event took place in June and showcased his unique ability to turn forgotten diaspora stories into moving compositions. Every note played by Charles during the performance aimed to transport the audience to a specific moment in history or a particular place that deserved more recognition. Supported by a talented group of musicians, the performance highlighted his latest album, Gullah Roots. This production stood out because it explored uncomfortable historical narratives through the lens of jazz, creating a sound that was both rich and completely alive. Attendees enjoyed a truly immersive experience where they were introduced to his distinct musical voice. Those who arrived familiar with his name walked out with a much deeper appreciation for his craft, feeling the profound impact of the stories he shared through his trumpet.
