The Kabaddi World Cup is all set to begin in Ahmedabad on Friday, with organisers and players of competing countries expressing confidence of taking the game to new heights of popularity across the globe. Addressing the media at a pre-event press conference, International Kabaddi Federation chief Deoraj Chaturvedi said that 12 out of 32 Kabaddi playing countries will participate in the fortnight-long tournament, which will be concluding on October 22. The game, which begins tomorrow at a new multi-purpose stadium, TransStadia, built here under a public private partnership.
A six-member strong Indian contingent is all set to tee off at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, the winner of which will get a chance to play alongside the world's elite at the Augusta National in the following year's Masters. The tournament will take place at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club, which hosted the Presidents Cup, where Anirban Lahiri made history by becoming the first Indian ever to represent the International team. The winner gets a berth at 2017 Masters and the runner-up gets a spot in final qualifying for 2017 British Open. Three of the six Indian players in Incheon this week are on golf scholarships in the United States.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan was today conferred with an honorary doctorate by a leading South Korean university. Accepting the doctorate from Seoul-based Hankuk University of Foreign Affairs (HUFS), Mahajan said the honour assumes special significance as public rarely recognizes the work of parliamentarians. Mahajan is currently leading an Indian Parliamentary Delegation to South Korea.
South Korea on Friday supported India's stance against terrorism emanating from Pakistan as Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan briefed its President Park Geun Hye about the action taken by the Indian army at the terror camps across the Line of Control (LoC). In the meeting held in the President House here, meaningful discussions were held on several issues and both countries stressed upon further strengthening their relationship, said an official statement. Informing Park about the "strong action" taken by India against terrorism, Mahajan apprised the Korean President about the continuous terrorist activities being carried out from Pakistan's territory.
