GDN
Overview
GDN is a biopic on the renowned G.D. Naidu, or Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu, who dedicated his life to innovation and technology that impacted the lives of common people in India. Born to Telugu farmers in Coimbatore, GD initially worked in the fields and took up various jobs during British Raj rule.
GD's curiosity and relentless search for answers and his dedication to his craft paved the way for the discoveries that followed. Beyond his innovations, the film also traces his repeated clashes with authorities, first facing scrutiny during British rule and later with government authorities in independent India, showcasing a life shaped as much by conflict as by invention.
GD Naidu's holistic approach to life extended to helping farmers and championing education for the common people. The development of India's first indigenous electric motor, his efforts to advance technical education, and his role in Coimbatore's growth as an industrial hub stand among his major contributions, and the film gives these achievements their due.
However, this still reads more like a biography than an exciting movie plot. The biggest issue is the last paragraph, which becomes a list of achievements and slows down the momentum.

Fun Facts
- G.D. Naidu left school in the third grade, then became known as the “Edison of India.” With no conventional technical education, Naidu taught himself by taking machines apart, figuring out how they worked and putting them back together. His experimental streak eventually reached the fields too: he developed a hybrid cotton variety known as “Naidu Cotton,” showing that his curiosity was just as powerful outside the workshop as it was inside it.
