Brown
Overview
Rita Brown is not the obvious choice for a case this sensitive. She is Anglo-Indian, a recovering alcoholic, with a professional history that makes people in the department uncomfortable. She gets the case anyway.
Ahana Jaiswal is dead, daughter of one of Kolkata's most powerful men with a direct line to the Chief Minister's office. The pressure to keep things quiet arrives before Rita asks a single question.
Arjun, her partner, carries his own grief into the work. Together they push through Kolkata's rain-soaked underbelly, looking for something powerful people would prefer to keep hidden. Sandip, a psychiatrist who treated Ahana, surfaces with details about her mental state, and none of it aligns with what is officially being said.
A copycat murder comes to light, changing everything. Brown is a crime series on the surface. Underneath, it is about what people doing the investigation carry with them while they investigate.

Fun Facts
- Karisma Kapoor initially rejected Brown simply to avoid a long Kolkata shoot. She relented after hearing the script. To play the flawed, chain-smoking alcoholic, the non-smoking actress stripped away her 90s glamour by wearing zero makeup, leaving her hair messy, and altering her body language.
- The series was shot on location in Kolkata during the scorching heat of June. Instead of fighting it with touch-ups, the director told Karisma, "Make the sweat your character." The crew completely banned makeup touch-ups between takes. To look even more disheveled and worn out, Karisma would intentionally crush her own shirts before the camera started rolling.
