Dastaar
Overview
Dastaar refers to the cloth of the pagdi or turban. It symbolises respect, goodwill and reputation in the Sikh community. It was a complex period in the UK during the 1980s. The Sikhs were brave in displaying their culture at that time, where the people of the UK were neither aware nor culturally sensitive regarding the Sikh faith.
The movie creates a narrative about the courage and faith of the Sikh culture. As an immigrant, the community tries to test you when the environment is against you. Tarsem Jasser leads the plot as a disciplined man who goes to a new country, and adapts to its culture. At the same time, he is making sure to follow his faith, avoiding a conflict of interest in an unfamiliar territory.
