Don't Say Good Luck
Overview
Sophie Birenbaum has spent her high school years dreaming of landing the lead role in her school’s musical. Everything she’s worked toward, every rehearsal, and every night studying the script has led to this. She’s ready for the spotlight, ready to own the stage and ready to prove to everyone that she belongs there. Then her world shifts. Family drama arrives faster than she can process it, and suddenly, the most complicated part of her life isn’t what happens on stage. It’s what happens at home. Her mother faces a cancer relapse while she is preparing for the lead role. Sophie has to figure out how to hold her family together while simultaneously delivering the performance of her life. Directed by Julia Hart and starring Sunny Sandler, with support from Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield, and Steve Buscemi, the film explores what it means to grow up when the people you need most are falling apart.

Fun Facts
- The title comes with a theatrical superstition. In the world of theater, saying “good luck” before a performance is often considered bad luck, which is why performers traditionally say “break a leg” instead. Don’t Say Good Luck turns that superstition into the title of a story about a girl preparing for the biggest role of her life.
