Fun Facts
- One of the biggest draws for this series is screenwriter Hwang Jo-yoon. He’s the legendary scribe behind the 2003 cult classic Oldboy, but his thriller resume is deep—he also wrote the heart-pounding Memoir of a Murderer and the historical action hit Masquerade. This marks his first-ever project for a streaming series, so expectations are sky-high.
- While the titular 'Gold Land' casino is a fictional hotspot for the Geumsung gang, the show's backdrop is grounded in reality. The story heavily features the characters' hometown which is a struggling, desolate area modeled after real South Korean mining towns that fell into decay after the coal industry collapsed. This 'forgotten town' vibe is used to emphasize why the characters are so desperate for the 150 billion won in gold.
