Overview

It happens live, on camera, in front of an audience. A person swells and explodes on live television, and the one responsible doesn't run, doesn't hide, and doesn't need to do either because there is nothing for anyone to hold.

That is the case a detective inherits, and the longer he stays with it, the less it resembles an isolated act of violence. Something older sits underneath this one death.

Human Vapor follows his pursuit of a truth that keeps slipping through his hands in the most literal sense possible, through layers of cover-ups and experiments that go somewhere nobody intended.

Fun Facts

- The series marks a major historical milestone as a grand creative alliance between Japanese and South Korean masterminds. The series is written and executive-produced by Yeon Sang-ho, the absolute titan of Korean horror responsible for Train to Busan, Hellbound, and Parasyte: The Grey.  The series' director is Japanese Shinzo Katayama, who blew audiences away with his visceral work on the psychological horror series Gannibal.

- To bring the terrifying physics of a gaseous human mass to life without looking cheap or overly fantastical, Netflix secured Shirogumi, the iconic, Academy Award-winning visual effects studio behind the worldwide phenomenon Godzilla Minus One. They were tasked with anchoring the supernatural gas mechanics in a gritty, hyper-realistic modern landscape.
