Overview

Someone at Seorin High School found an app called Girigo. It grants wishes. All you have to do is record yourself making one, with your name and birthdate on camera, and whatever you ask for comes true.

The first wish seems harmless enough. A student asks for a perfect score on his maths test. He gets it. He tells his friends. His friends download the app.

If Wishes Could Kill is a horror series about what happens when the thing you wanted most becomes the thing most likely to destroy you.

Fun Facts

- The mysterious app in the series is named Girigo. In Korean, the verb girida is traditionally used to respectfully praise or commemorate the deceased. The title is a dark irony; while the app 'honors' a user’s wish, the name itself suggests a funeral rite, hinting that the cost of the wish is the user’s own life.

- If Wishes Could Kill is Netflix's first Korean young adult horror series, developed specifically to blend traditional supernatural elements with modern digital culture. Director Park Youn-seo previously served as second unit director on Kingdom Season 2 and co-directed Moving, bringing a credible genre pedigree to a series that trades the warm, sunny aesthetic of a typical K-drama school story for something considerably colder. The result is a Seorin High School that feels less like a campus and more like a trap.
