Kartavya
Overview
Jhamli is the kind of posting you get when nobody is watching your career anymore. Small town, slow days, the same faces in the same places. Inspector Pawan Malik knew every grudge in his patrol area. He did his job with no ambition left to complicate things.
Then they gave him a journalist to escort, and everything changed in about forty seconds.
Routine duty. Back roads, separate vehicles, nothing on paper that should have made anyone nervous. But two bikes came and fulfilled their mission before Pawan reacted. Journalist dead. One shooter down. The other one managed to escape. Pawan stood in the middle of a road in Jhamli with a body at his feet and that particular silence that followed gunfire.
Then the name of a 16-year-old came to light - Harpal.
Kartavya presents a complex narrative centered on the weight of professional and personal duty.

Fun Facts
- Kartavya is the first time Saif Ali Khan has worked under Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. Saif mentioned that SRK personally reached out to him with the script. Interestingly, SRK intentionally stayed off the set because he didn't want his presence to be overwhelming for the crew, but he gave the film a glowing review after a private screening.
- The film features a surprise casting which is Saurabh Dwivedi, the well-known Founding Editor of The Lallantop. Given the film’s plot involves a manhunt triggered by the shooting of a journalist, his casting adds a layer of 'meta' realism to the narrative.
