Johnny Cage is not having a great run.

Joining the returning champions of Earthrealm, Cage is pulled into something far bigger than any film set he has ever stood on. The stakes this time are not just personal. The official tournament has arrived, and if Earthrealm loses its tenth consecutive match, Shao Kahn gets to conquer it. That is the deal. That is always been the deal. The Earthrealm fighters just never had to live through it at this scale before.

What holds it together is the human cost underneath all of it. These warriors are not just fighting for survival in the abstract. They are fighting because losing means everything they know ceases to exist. For a man like Cage, who has spent years struggling to find a reason to get out of bed, that turns out to be exactly the kind of meaning he was looking for.
