Murder 101
Overview
The Redhead Murders made headlines across the American South once and then did what most unsolved cases eventually do: they faded from conversation, from the investigation boards, from everything except the memories of the people who lost someone. Thirty years passed with no meaningful progress from the professionals assigned to work it.
The breakthrough, when it came, did not come from a detective's office. It came from a high school sociology classroom in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Alex Campbell, a teacher, decided that investigating a real cold case was worth more than any textbook exercise he could design. His students dug through decades of case files, found overlooked connections, and brought sustained attention back to victims.
Murder 101 follows that class’s investigation, documenting what happened when a group of teenagers with no training and no badges did what professionals with thirty years of experience could not.

Fun Facts
- While the series centres around everyday high schoolers, the powerhouse talent backing it up is purely Hollywood royalty. The docuseries is executive produced by Jon Watts, alongside Dianne McGunigle and Stephanie Lydecker.
- The real-world hero of the series is Alex Campbell, an unconventional sociology teacher at Elizabethton High School in Tennessee. Rather than forcing his students to memorise textbook chapters, Campbell realised that looking into criminal sociology and victimology through actual, local historical data would teach them more about human behaviour.
