Set against the tense backdrop of the Cold War in 1977 Moscow, Ponies tells the gripping story of two women whose seemingly ordinary lives are shattered by sudden tragedy. Bea, an overeducated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants, and Twila, a fearless small-town girl with a sharp instinct for survival, work quietly as secretaries at the American embassy. In the world of intelligence, they are dismissed as ‘PONIES,’ or persons of no interest- invisible figures who move unnoticed through the corridors of power.
