Overview

Gus is fat and lazy, rude on principle, deeply opinionated, and armed with fangs he thinks make him braver than he actually is. He is also a cat. The chaos that follows is entirely his fault.

Alley Cats is Ricky Gervais back in animation, arriving exactly as unfiltered as that combination suggests. A group of feral British cats, each carrying its own damage and outlook, navigates the messy business of finding companionship and figuring out their lives. Nobody here is a philosopher. Nobody is a hero. They are cats on a street trying to get through the day while the weight of simply existing keeps showing up uninvited.

Gervais does what Gervais does. It delivers biting social commentary wrapped in profanity & genuine feeling, uncomfortable questions asked through creatures who have no business asking them but ask them anyway. The laughs land hard. So does the rest of it.

Fun Facts

- For years, Gervais' social media presence has been dominated by two things: stand-up comedy and an unapologetic obsession with cats. Alley Cats serves as his first project to combine both passions directly into one format. Gervais voices the lead feline, Gus, whom he described as 'a fat, lazy, rude, opinionated creature with fangs, who's not as smart or brave as he thinks he is... so quite a stretch.'

- Before heading to Netflix, the show made its public debut on the festival circuit. Netflix selected Alley Cats for a supersized sneak peek showcase at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where audiences got an early look at two complete episodes ahead of its August rollout.
