Shipwrecked - Nightmare at Sea
Overview
On January 13, 2012, a luxury cruise ship, the Costa Concordia, carrying over 4,200 people, struck a rock formation off the Italian coast while performing a sail-by salute and began to sink. Thirty-two people lost their lives. It is still one of the worst maritime disasters in the modern history.
Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea reconstructs that night using footage never publicly shown before and firsthand accounts from those who were on board. This is not a distant retelling built around statistics and archive news reports. It is survivors describing what it actually felt like when the ship started listing, when the floor stopped being level, and when the crew lost control of the situation faster than anyone could process.
The documentary moves hour by hour through the disaster, staying close to the human experience of living through it rather than the official version of events that followed.

Fun Facts
- The documentary entirely focuses on the raw, firsthand perspective of those on board. Instead of relying on traditional, detached news commentators, it pieces the disaster together using never-before-seen personal videos recorded by passengers as the ship capsized.
- While the English-speaking world knows the film as Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea, Netflix is releasing it globally under localized titles. For example, viewers in France will see it titled La Dérive: Cauchemar en mer.
