The Big Fake
Overview
In the vibrant yet dangerous streets of Rome during the 1970s, a young artist struggles to find recognition in a city overflowing with talent. His paintings are admired by a few but dismissed by galleries that favor established names. Desperate to survive and prove his worth, he is drawn into the hidden world of forgery, where skill and deception intertwine. The artist discovers that his ability to replicate masterpieces is unmatched. Criminal gangs operating in the underbelly of Rome notice his talent and lure him into their schemes. At first he believes it is only temporary, a way to earn money and gain respect, but soon he is producing flawless imitations of Renaissance and modern works that are sold to wealthy collectors and smuggled across Europe.
This film offers a deep look into the high cost of talent when it is exploited by greed and corruption.
