The Bombing of Pan Am 103
Overview
On a dark December evening in 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 breaks apart over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing everyone aboard & eleven people on the ground. What follows becomes the largest murder investigation in the history of Scottish policing, and this limited series moves between two intertwined threads.
The first follows Scottish police officers, unprepared for anything on this scale, as they work with FBI investigators to piece together evidence.
The second, quieter thread stays with the families. Parents wait at airports for children who never land. Grieving fathers learn the shape of loss in the months & years that follow. Their fight for answers continues long after the investigation closes, through trials, appeals, and decades of unresolved anger.
The series does not offer easy closure. It sits with the weight of the tragedy, and the very human need to understand why, even when why never fully arrives.

Fun Facts
- Out of deep respect for the families and survivors of the actual tragedy, the production team chose not to film the chaotic crash aftermath scenes in the real town of Lockerbie. Instead, the grittier, explosive debris sequences were captured using sets built in other parts of Scotland. However, creators explicitly met with Lockerbie town officials and residents beforehand, who granted special permission to film the emotional final memorial scene at the actual historical locations: Dryfesdale Cemetery, Tundergarth Church, and Lockerbie Town Hall.
- Because the joint Scottish-American investigation rapidly spans multiple countries, the production had to get incredibly creative with locations. The crew utilized Glasgow Prestwick Airport to seamlessly double as three entirely separate international airports across the globe: London Heathrow, New York's JFK, and Malta Airport.
