Overview

In the sun-drenched expanse of the New Mexico desert lies The Boroughs, a picturesque retirement community promising its residents the time of their lives. The security guard at the gate delivers the welcome tagline, "Welcome to The Boroughs, where you’ll have the time of your life," with a smile. Sam Coope has just lost his wife and is deep in an existential crisis. His daughter drives him here, hoping he will settle in. He, however, grumbles that it is an ironic tagline for a place people come to die.

Everything changes when a nighttime encounter leaves Sam shaken and certain that something monstrous is moving through the community, something the manicured lawns were never meant to hide. Regarded as another confused old man, Sam finds unexpected solace in a band of neighbourhood misfits. This group features a sharp-tongued former journalist, a spiritual seeker, a cynical music manager, and a brilliant doctor who’s running out of options.
