Though I Am an Inept Villainess
Overview
In the Kingdom of Ei, five clans put forth their maidens as imperial consorts but only one will be crowned empress. Just when frail and beautiful court butterfly Kou Reirin seems poised to marry the crown prince, jealous court rat Shu Keigetsu steals her body. Reirin wakes up in the dungeons as the conspirator, and things look dire to everyone else. Now that she has a robust new body, not even the looming threat of execution can stop her.
Switched faces, palace politics, and a girl who has absolutely no intention of losing a game she did not choose to enter. Reirin did not design any of this. She is also not the type to go quietly.

Fun Facts
- The anime was originally locked and heavily promoted for an April 2026 premiere. However, the production committee made the executive decision to push the release back to July 12, 2026, citing deliberate 'delays in production progress.' Rather than rushing the intricate palace backgrounds and complex facial animations out the door, Doga Kobo took the extra months to ensure the series lived up to its massive visual hype.
- Before it even scored an anime order, Satsuki Nakamura's original story was an absolute commercial powerhouse. The light novel and its subsequent manga adaptation have over 3 million copies in circulation. It also won the prestigious Grand Prize in the light novel category at the People's Choice Electronic Comic Awards.
